Ostenil is a hyaluronic acid-containing medical product used to treat osteoarthritis in synovial joints (e.g. knee, hip, shoulder and finger joints).
The joint capsule of a synovial joint is filled with a fluid. This synovial fluid is also often referred to as “joint lubricant”, and its most important component is hyaluronic acid. It protects the cartilage surfaces of the joint from wear and tear and supplies them with nutrients. In osteoarthritis, the balance between the formation and breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the joint is disturbed. Injections of Ostenil supply the joint with new hyaluronic acid and restore the normal balance between degradation and regeneration.
Ostenil 20mg was developed for the treatment of large joints such as the knee, hip or shoulder. According to the manufacturer, a joint with osteoarthritis symptoms should receive three to five ostenil injections at weekly intervals if possible. This treatment can alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis for 6-12 months.
1 ml isotonic solution contains 10.0 mg sodium hyaluronate as well as sodium chloride, disodium phosphate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate and water for injections.
CAUTION – Important notice: Ostenil pre-filled syringes are intended for injection by a physician. Since the injection technique is essential for the success of the treatment, it may only be used by physicians who can demonstrate special training.
